Pole position for Michael Ammermüller in Monte Carlo

Michael Ammermüller (BWT Lechner Racing) has secured the perfect starting position in Monaco: The German posted pole position for the second round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Circuit de Monaco. At the wheel of his 485 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Ammermüller turned the fastest qualifying lap with a time of 1:34.963 minutes. “Position one on the grid on this narrow street circuit is especially important in Monaco. Overtaking is notoriously difficult here. Because there were so much traffic out on the track, I could only manage one flying lap. This makes me all the more thrilled with the result,” said Ammermüller. Lining up next to him on the first grid row for Sunday’s race is Mikkel Pedersen (DK/Dinamic Motorsport). The Dutchman Larry ten Voorde (MRS GT-Racing) set the third fastest time.

The track was still slightly damp at the beginning of the qualifying session, with cloudy skies and a temperature of 18-degrees Celsius. Despite this, all 28 drivers opted for slicks. As the track surface gradually dried, lap times tumbled. Halfway through the 30-minute session, Ayhancan Güven (TR/martinet by ALMÉRAS) appeared at the top of the time sheets. With fresh tyres, the drivers tackled the second 15 minutes, which turned into a real thriller. With five minutes left on the clock, Ammermüller claimed pole position, with Pedersen promptly posting the second quickest time. “I think I could have managed even a little more, however the qualifying showed me that I’m fast. For this reason, I’m heading into the race feeling confident and I’d very much like to improve,” said Pedersen.

Florian Latorre (F/Fach Auto Tech) concluded the qualifying behind ten Voorde on fourth place. Behind the young French racing driver came Dylan Pereira (L/Momo Megatron Lechner Racing) and Ayhancan Güven (TR/martinet by ALMÉRAS) as the best rookie. Porsche Junior Julien Andlauer (BWT Lechner Racing) planted his 911 on the fourth grid row with seventh place. “To be honest, I’m a little disappointed. My last lap was really good, but then another car was involved in a collision, the red flag came out and I had to abandon my attempt,” declared the Frenchman. Jaap van Lagen (NL/martinet by ALMÉRAS) scored the eighth grid spot.

Porsche Junior Jaxon Evans (Fach Auto Tech) tackles Sunday’s race in the Principality for the first time. The 22-year-old New Zealander claimed the twelfth grid spot. “Driving is Monaco is a totally new experience for me. It’s a huge challenge to get the timing right without coming up against slower vehicles. Unfortunately I never quite succeeded in doing this. My main focus for the race is on the start,” said Evans. The best grid position in the ProAm classification went to Roar Lindland (N/pierre martinet by ALMÉRAS) ahead of Nicolas Misslin (F/MRS GT-Racing) and Philipp Sager (A/Dinamic Motorsport).

Round two of the season takes off on Sunday at 10.30 hours local time. The race is televised on Eurosport in 60 countries. In Germany, Sport1 covers the international one-make cup, with Sky broadcasting in Great Britain and Italy. Fans can also watch the race live via the official Formula 1 streaming service (F1 TV).
